Jared Bailey

Born:  August 20, 1758, New London, Connecticut.
Married: Elizabeth(April 7, 1758)
Children: Sidney, Betty, John, Nancy
Military: Private and Corporal, Captain Benjamin Hopkins Company, Colonial John Topham's Regiment and also in Sullivans life guard. He enlisted in April 11, 1778.
Died: Aug 26, 1839 in Center Twp, Guernsey County, Ohio
Buried on his farm in Center Township, Which is now known as Founders Cemetery. He was granted military land in Center Township described as follows: Part of section 17 military lot 20 south half range 2 twp 1. He was a farmer.


Robert Bay

Age 86 yrs. Buried in Cumberland Spencer Township

James Bratton


Born: 1741, Butler Township Chester County Pennsylvania
Married: Bathsheba Ripley in 1783
Children: Edward, Robert, Elizabeth, John, William, Bathsheba, James, Rachel, Sarah, James, Joseph,and Samuel
Military: Private Pennsylvania Militia
Died: October 6, 1844 in Center Township Guernsey County.
Buried: Pleasant Hill Cemetery
He was a farmer and first settler in Madison Township

Robert Chambers

Captain Thomas B. Cook


Born: September 4, 1749
Married: Elizabeth Smith in 1782, Spartansburg, SC
Children: Joseph, William, John, Thomas, Elizabeth, Jane, Rebecca, and Issac.
Military: Made Lieutenant 8th Pennsylvania Regiment August 9, 1776. Made Captain July 25, 1777 under Generals Marion, Sumpter, Pickens, and Greene until end of war.
Died: November 5, 1831 Guernsey
Buried: Old Cambridge. Known now as Founders Cemetery.
He took up 200 acres of land on Cooks Run 3 miles east of Cambridge. A farmer and was sent North with the Pennsylvania troops. Is said to have been taken prisoner at the battle of Three Rivers, Canada; was taken out to execution, made masonic sign of distress, was sent back to guard house by young english officer and that night freed. This is said to be recorded in the masonic lodge in Cambridge.

Military: Private soldier Sussex Co. NJ. Enlisted October 1776. Companies Henry Countryman, Captain Jacob Stull, Captain Matthia Bethwith, Captain Christian Longstree, 2nd regiment 1779
Children: Abraham, Hannah, Anna, Robert, Williams, Ephraim, Samuel, and Joseph.
Died: July 26, 1844 in Senecaville
Buried: Senecaville Cemetery.

Military: Served as a ranger on the frontier
Died: 1807

William Wallace

Born: 1758 Pennsylvania
Married: Mary Miller
Died: July 18, 1842
Buried: Cumberland Cemetery
Inscription on memoral: 


In memory of William Wallace, soldier of the Revolution. At the age of seventeen he enlisted and served with George Washington when he crossed the frozen Delaware to attack the Hessians. He endured the hardships of winter at Valley Forge and served throughout the war.
Died in Cumberland, Guernsey County, Ohio, July 18, 1842, aged eighty-four years. He was the son of Moses Wallace, also a Revolutionary soldier. This memorial was erected by Robert Frederick Wolfe, a descendant

John Walter

Military: Private under Captain Parker, Colonial William Butler and Richard Butler; Pennsylvania Troops
Died: 1829

Andrew Whittier

Born: 1716 Germany
Married: Mary Mackay
Military: served under and was a friend of General George Washington
Died: 1840 Jackson Township, Guernsey County at 124 yrs old.
Buried: Was first buried in a cemetery on the creek near Byesville. The action of the water washed some of the bodies out. Friends and relatives removed the body of Whitter to cemetery at Old Cambridge Church graveyard about 1894.
He came to this country from Germany and settled at Baltimore when it was only a village. Lived later in Virginia and Pennsylvania. Coming from Pennsylvania to Guernsey County Ohio or that part of it which was military reseration shortly after the war of 1812.

Children: Woodward (Died young), Anthony (Married Sarah Cook), Constantine (Married Benjamin Sherrock), Margaret (married Isaac Depew), Phoebe (married Samuel King), Nimrod (married Rebecca King), Abner (1st marriage Luda Chalfant (no children) 2nd marriage June white (9 children), Joseph (married Sarah St. Clair), and Jacob (married Mary A Plummer).
Military: Served as wagon master in wagon master General Dept. under Wagon Master General Gershon Johnson. Owner of 1 wagon, 4 horses, which was in service 47 days between July 21 and Sept 17, 1778 and 45 days between Sept 17 and November 1, 1778.
Died: December 3, 1838
Buried: Family graveyard on home farm, known as Williams Cemetery
